Oh no...its time. Time for Coachella comedown. Its something everyone that goes to Coachella experiences even if they didn't do any illegal substances. You experience such a natural high being at Coachella (well I can only speakfor myself) that when its over...well u experience withdrawals of some sort. & when you live in Hawaii its even worse...cause mothing ever happens here and bands HARDLY EVER set foot here. Well, at least the ones I like. So far right now the only concerts I'm excited about are Vampire Weekend & Kathy Griffin. Kathy Griffin is hilarious!!!!!
18 + clubs give me the willies. I'm afraid I'll appear too old or perhaps too " mature". I won't disclose my age but let's just say I'm old enough to drink...a long time ago. But after seeing Le Castlevania @ The last "Check Yo Ponytail" we decided to check "DanceDanceDance" @ Arena which also host gay club nites. When we got there, a line had already formed outside. And luckily we found flyers at Turntable Lab that gave us a discount on the cover. And they had a 2 for 1 drink special before 11. YESSSSS!!!! So we loaded up on the drinks. So yeah, the crowd here is pretty young, but upstairs is 21 and over only so you can kinda get away from it all. It also had its own bar that had no line. And a bathroom that had no line! And no bathroom attendant! The DJs that nite were Paparazzi, Joaquin, & LeCastlevania and more. I had a lot of fun here. But I think I read somewhere on Yelp that Arena was gonna close. Too bad. Its a pretty cool club. Its really huge. I'm glad we got to go...
I have to say of all the theme parks in California... Universal is prolly second or third. Thank goodness they are getting a new ride! Back to The Future Ride has been changed to the Simpsons Ride. They don't have very many rides. But at least they have Citywalk. You can do stuff at Citywalk after. Um then we went to a nite recommended by our friend. It's called Camarata and it on Sundays at Cinespace. My fave part was that there was no covercharge! Wheee!! They had a photographer which is like standard at all clubnites in LA. In th front room that had a dj spinning pretty cool tunes but had soso mixing skills. And in the back they had live bands. It was a lot of fun. Different from the usual clubnites we attend. The live bands played a lot of rock. But I liked it because it was different. It took me back to high school when I was totally into rock & metal. And I use to attend a lot of different band gigs back in the day. A long time ago. Oh and while some the bands play, an artist paints a mural. Interesting. Oh and there's free vodka before 11 but we got there too late. Darn!!!!!
Okay um $15 for this place is a bit much... Um this isn't Vegas. This isnt some hoity toity club. Its actually kinda divey. So yes I was upset about $15 cover. Even if I had money to burn, I'd be upset. You all must think I'm some cheap biatch complaining about tipping bathroom attendants and paying cover charge. I'm not cheap. Just $15.00 is a bit steep especially for Club Bang. I would have been okay with $10.00. I did love the music though. They played a lot of dance & indie hits so that was fun. I'm not sure who the djs were. I think it was maybe Bip Jeffington & Joaquin. Last time we went was in 2006 but I don't remember paying $15.00. So yeah, great music but lame cover charge.
Um let me start off by saying I hate bathroom attendants. I can get my own soap & towel, thank u. I don't mind tipping...if I have the money. But when you are drinking and have to make frequent trips to restroom tipping the attendant can add up... Okay so there was my rant on to Bootie LA. The last time I went to Bootie LA was back in 2006. It was in the Echo which is located above the Echoplex. Mashup was kinda new. My boyfriend heard of the nite so we decided to check it out. It was a lot of fun. I know some people hate mashup and Bootie LA knows it too. The slogan on their sticker reads " Ruining your favorites songs since 2004" Hahaha. People who hate Mashup would agree. What is mashup you may ask? Mashup is taking elements of a bunch of already well known songs and combining them to make a whole new song. Usually its 2...sometimes its more. My first encounter with mashup or what would seem like a mashup would be Stuntmasters "The Lady Boy Is Mine" which combines Modjo's "Lady" with "The Boy Is Mine" By Brandy & Monica. The first time I ever heard it was in 2001? I think. It was at a rave (yes...ahem. A rave.) Either Armand Van Helden played it or Dj Sneak. I thought it was clever and brilliant. Since then there have been many mash ups made some clever, some ridiculous. But this nite is all of that. Its amazing how many mashups there are now. Enough to have a whole freaking club nite dedicated to it. Pretty damn cool. I enjoyed it. Even though the host & hostess of the party wasn't there (Adrian & Mysterious D, they were busy out running the Amazing Race. That's actually a joke. If you watched last seasons TAR, do u remember Kynt & Vyxin? Well if you know what Adrian & Ms D look like u get the joke. That was a long explanation. For a joke.) Anyways it was a fun nite.It the first Sat of every month. Check it out!
Okay I know I promised detailed or at least some inkling of a blog of my trip but when u r having sssoooooooooooo much fun, who's got time really. We have done so much so far, that this has been soooo incredible. This trip has totally surpassed 2007 but then again both trips were kinda different. I can't describe it. Crayyyyzeee. And we're not done yet... We've only just begun...
I've never been to any "Check Yo Ponytail" . I missed last years anniversary only because we ended up at another party. I don't live in LA but whenever we head out there we always check what parties are happening when we are there. We got to the Echoplex super early for fear that the line would be massive. I like the Echoplex. It reminds me of the Wave Waikiki, kinda divey yet not too yucky or pretentious. Its pretty big too. I heard about CYP thru the internet & MySpace. I saw pics & vids and heard about all the cool acts that have played & performed at CYP. We saw soooo many acts & djs that nite. Frankie Chan, the promoter of CYP & head of IHEARTCOMIX, I believe he started the nite off. Then in no particular order, these are the artists that played: Hollywood Holt, Wallpaper, Acid Girls, Le Castlevania, Dan Deacon...i'm not sure if there were more. It was a lot of fun. Dan Deacon tried to get a little pit or human whirpool of some kind going. It was fun to watch. I'll definitely post some vids later for your viewing pleasure... But yeah it was fun. Goodbye CYP. I'm glad I got to go to the last one.
Whoa so last nite prolly the most crayziessssst of the 3. We saw soooo many acts, more acts then we EVER will see back in Honolulu. We got there kinda late so we missed The Institubes but they are playing today (Sun). We got to see Uffie w/ Dj Mehdi,Kavinsky, Boyz Noize, Erol Alkan, Hot Chip, Yo Majesty,Kraftwerk, MIA, Mark Ronson, Portishead, & effin PRINCE!!!! It was awesome rawsome. Today will be pretty cool too. Holy F*ck, Does It Offend You Yeah?,Sia, Modeselektor, and Justice. Altho I'm curious to see what Roger Waters has in store...
